Discovery Film Festival 2021

#DiscoveryFilmFest

5 October 2021

Welcome to Discovery Film Festival 2021!

Our annual celebration of the best in brand new films for younger audiences returns to DCA from Sat 23 October to Sun 7 November, with our always popular collections of short films for all and some fantastic feature films fresh for Tayside audiences.

Our Gala Opening film Jackie & Oopjen celebrates history, friendship, bananas and art galleries in a fun-filled romp for those aged 8 and up. Presented in Dutch with English subtitles, this mash-up of 17th and 21st century Amsterdam is a real upbeat tonic for the times. Playing equal amounts of havoc with past and present, The Fantastic Journey Of Margot & Marguerite (recommended ages 12+) mixes the Second World War with contemporary teenage life in France – 80 years can make quite a difference it seems…

For older audiences, and those who like their cinema both bang up-to-date and with a global perspective, All Hands On Dec (A l’abordage), The Night of the Beast (La noche de la Bestia) and The Wolves (Los lobos) shine their spotlights on – amongst other things - holiday romance, economic migration and Iron Maiden in Colombia. Something for everyone!

Inspired by the films on show, you can also take the opportunity to enjoy some creative Discovery Art Cart Adventures or try a spooky make (just in time for Halloween) at our Discovery Family Art Lab

Whilst in-cinema screenings are fewer than in previous years, the wonderful thing about Discovery 2021 is that the entire programme - shorts and features - will be available to watch online via DCA at Home for the duration of the festival, plus we'll have a selection of fun activities inspired by our Shorts for Wee and Middle Ones for you to download and try at home. So there’s no need to miss a thing!

Whether you join us in in-person or at home, we’d love to hear your thoughts, read your film reviews, and see your creative masterpieces - share them all using #DiscoveryFilmFest.

See you at the fest!
