Sky Crawlers, the stylish and epic anime from the director of Ghost in the Shell, will have it's Scottish premier at the DCA Cinema on the 1st November at the Discovery Film Festival. The film will have only screened once in the UK before, and Discovery offers a rare chance to catch this gem from Mamouru Oshii who's previous film spawned a major gaming franchise and has recently been followed up by Ghost in the Shell 2.0.

Sky Crawlers is set in an alternative universe where war has been eradicated and the world is at peace. With a new appetite for conflict, private war contractors begin to enlist fighter pilots to participate in battles which exploit 'war as entertainment'. These pilots never age into adulthood, and live in an eternal adolescence until the day they drift gravefully through the endless skies....

Mixing 2D and 3D animation techniques, Sky Crawlers blends together Oshii's unique brand of storytelling and philosophy with spectacular action sequences, as he delivers a powerful message about the place of youth in our contemporary culture.
